Nor Cal Wildfires

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — Light rain and cooler temperatures have helped dampen explosive wildfires in Northern California and southwestern Oregon that were threatening more than 1,000 scattered rural homes. But not before some dicey moments Tuesday afternoon when thunderstorms blew through with erratic winds that drove flames out of containment lines. No homes were reported lost.
In southwestern Oregon, a thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon blew the Rogue River Drive fire out of containment lines on the outskirts of Shady Cove. Helicopters and air tankers pounded the fire with water and retardant, while bulldozers carved lines around homes. By Wednesday morning, none of the 130 threatened structures was lost.
In Northern California, two fires on the Klamath National Forest grew by a total of 10 square miles Tuesday, but the changing weather has slowed them down.
