Man Sentenced To 13 Years For Arson, Attempted Murder

Prosecutors say revenge was the motive for a man who was sentenced to 13 years Wednesday for arson and attempted murder of a child. 59-year-old William Brainard was reportedly already found guilty of arson but the jury could not find him guilty on the attempted murder charge. A retrial led Brainard to enter a plea of no contest. Prosecutors say Brainard and his ex wife were in a custody dispute so he burned the house and almost ignited a device outside the child's bedroom hut it didn't go off. The incident happened in the early morning of February 18, 2015 on Losse Way in Chico. Brainard's sentence reportedly started Wednesday.
