Defendant In DUI Case Has Died

Butte County DA Mike Ramsey announced Wednesday that 20-year-old Diego Arriaga-Rodriguez died Tuesday at a Bay Area hospital from his injuries suffered in a collision back in 2014.

Arriaga-Rodriguez was charged with driving under the influence resulting in the deaths of 19-year-old Bryant Mata and 21-year-old Austin Silver.

Arriaga-Rodriguez was allegedly driving his car on Bidwell Avenue in Chico after 12:30 am on January 26, 2014 when he lost control of his vehicle and it landed upside down in Big Chico Creek. All three were trapped inside and underwater. Silver was pronounced dead at the scene and Mata later died at the hospital.
