Oroville City Council OK’s First Step For Increase In Sales Tax

The council voted unanimously Tuesday for an initial approval for a 1 percent sales tax for public safety. If the council approves the measure in June then it will go on the November ballot for voters to decide.

The one-cent sales tax increase is estimated to generate over 3 million dollars a year and would be used to hire 9 police officers, five firefighters, and various support staff as well as fill other law enforcement and emergency personal positions.
