An officer spotted a green minivan at a gas station in west Chico around 11:30 pm Saturday that he believed was reported stolen. Additional officers arrived and attempted to pull over the van but the driver allegedly took off. The van headed towards Glenn County on several back roads at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. The minivan went off the road into a field west of Ord Ferry and Highway 45. That's when the driver identified as 52-year-old Blas Torres reportedly fled on foot and then jumped into a canal. Officers were able to pull Torres out and arrest him.
