Chico Police respond to a shooting involving a child. Officers arrived at Enole Hospital after a report of a 4-year-old child with a gunshot wound to the upper leg before 6 pm Sunday. The father told officers that his child was in the backyard playing with some toys when he heard a loud pop and then crying from his child.
Police went to 26 hundred block of Lobo Way near where the child was shot and learned that while 22-year-old Ronald Cameron was cleaning his .22 caliber riffle it fired. Cameron was reportedly unaware that the round had hit the child. According to a Chico Police Department press release, Cameron was arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm.
