A man is arrested for assault in downtown Chico. A group of women were leaving work and walking to there cars on East 4th Street just after midnight Tuesday morning when a man approached them. The man, identified as 31-year-old Michael Bures reportedly claimed that he had been hearing voices and he believed the women were laughing at him. He allegedly pulled a knife on one of the women. According to police, Bures made a slashing motion inches from the woman's neck. One of the women called 9-1-1 and reported the incident. According to a Chico Police Department Press release, officers quickly arrived and found Bures behind the Chico City Council Chambers and he was arrested.

The Chico Police Department is praising the women for using smart tactics during the dangerous encounter.
