Vehicular Manslaughter Plea

A driver accussed of vehicular manslaughter north of Chico gave his plea in court. 59-year-old Jeffrey Pyburn of Los Molinos entered a no contest plea Tuesday to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

The charges stem from a collision in September of last year when Pyburn was driving northbound in his GMC Yukon Highway 99 north of Gaia Way when his SUV drifted over striking 51-year-old Jeffrey Cahn who had been standing along the roadway. Cahn, who was the manager of the Oroville Mosquito Abatement District at the time, died at the scene. Butte County D-A Mike Ramsey says that even though Pyburn was found to be below the legal limit for blood alcohol level - it still played a factor in the crash.

According to the Butte County District Attorney's Office, Pyburn faces up to a year in county jail when he is sentenced in January.
