Taxpayer group challeneges fire protection fee

California's rural fire protection fee is being challenged in court by a taxpayer watchdog group. The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association filed the class action lawsuit Thursday. The group claims the 150-dollar annual fee is unconstitutional because it was passed without the required two-thirds vote in the Legislature. The lawsuit targets Cal-Fire and the Board of Equalization.
