RED BLUFF, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California-based lumber company has agreed to pay $95,000 to settle a federal discrimination lawsuit alleging it allowed co-workers to harass an employee of Egyptian descent. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced the settlement with Redding-based Sierra Pacific Industries on Tuesday. The EEOC alleged the company fired Ahmed Elshenawy from its Red Bluff facility in 2004 after he complained of the alleged harassment. Elshenawy, who will receive the settlement money, later joined the U.S. Army. The company denied the allegations. The EEOC says Sierra Pacific has also agreed to report details of future complaints of discrimination or retaliation based on national origin and revise its anti-discrimination policies.
