Enloe Lock Down

An officer arrived at the hospital after 7:30 Monday evening to finish a mental health evaluation. As he entered the building he was met by frightened people who informed him that there was a man running through the hospital reportedly saying he had a gun. Police say most patients fled the emergency room when the man rushed in. All available officers responded and the hospital was put on lockdown. Witnesses told officers that they saw the man jump out of a window. The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Russell Niewald was apprehended near the intersection of West 6th Avenue and the Esplanade, but not after allegedly resisting officers. According to police, no firearm was found. The hospital was taken off of lock down sometime after 8 pm.
