Chico Leaders Tuesday get a snapshot of the city's finances. The annual audit shows an increase in most revenues except property taxes. City Manager Brian Nakamura however sees a gradual increase there.
What the audit doesn't show is the defeat of Measure J in November. That's the measure that would've let the city collect taxes on cell phones. Nakamura says the city will have to deal with an almost million dollar loss. He thinks the money can be made up with a combination of budget cuts and innovative ways to raise revenues. The City Council later this month will have two workshops aimed at setting budget goals for the coming year.
