A 40 year old Chico man is in custody on a number of kidnapping and rape charges. Chico Police think they've made a big breakthrough with the arrest of Lonnie Keith. Police say he's the prime suspect in a series of kidnappings and sexual assaults in the south campus area of Chico State over the past year and a half. In the early morning hours of January 26th, police stopped Keith on a traffic violation. A search found some suspicious items in a concealed compartment.
Police Lt. Mike O'Brien says many of the victims reported being forced into a vehicle before being raped. Keith is reportedly a physician's assistant at Enloe and Oroville Medical centers. He is being held on two counts of kidnapping and two counts of rape. Meanwhile, the inveastigation continues.
