Chico city government is on the brink of its biggest change in years. The plan for reorganization that goes before the City Council Tuesday would reduce the number of city departments from 10 to 6. They would be Administrative Services, Community Development, Public Works, Police Fire and Community Enhancement. City Manager Brian Nakamura estimates the reorganization, or right sizing, would save about a million dollars a year. He stresses this reorganization is a work in progress, and he cannot know right now how many department heads and employees would be absorbed or let go from city staff.
