Redding Priest Enters Plea in Molestation Case

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A Redding priest has pleaded no contest to molesting a young girl. The Sacramento Bee reports that the Rev. Uriel Ojeda will spend up to 8 years in prison after entering his plea in Sacramento County Superior Court on Friday. The 33-year-old Ojeda admitted to molesting a 13-year-old Sacramento County girl in the bedroom of her parents' home sometime between June, 2007 and June, 2009. Ojeda's plea also came two days after a judge ruled that Ojeda's confession to molesting the girl to a Catholic Diocese investigator could be used against him at trial. Ojeda had been a parochial vicar at Our Lady of Mercy parish in Redding. Prosecutors dropped six other felony child molestation charges against Ojeda in exchange for his plea. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 2.
