Pilot Killed in Red Bluff Crash Identified

RED BLUFF, Calif. (AP) — A man who died when a small plane he was piloting crashed at the Red Bluff airport shortly after takeoff has been identified as a 65-year-old Butte County resident. A Coroner's Office released James C. Carter's name on Tuesday. The Durham resident was killed in a crash at Red Bluff Municipal Airport Monday morning.
National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Peter Knudson tells the Chico Enterprise-Record that the light-sport aircraft reached an altitude of around 50 to 75 feet before crashing. Carter was the only person on board. He was scheduled to fly to Chico. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but officials say conditions at the airport were normal.
