Chico's Fire Department getting creative to meet its budget cuts. The Department plans to save 1 point 6 million dollars by not paying any overtime and going to what the Fire Chief calls "Strategic Closures". Chief Keith Carter stresses these closures are not 'brown outs.' If a Fire Station were forced to close, the personnel there would be used to fill in for people who are sick or on vacation. Chief Carter says if there's a closure and the city gets two calls at the same time, one fire will be covered by Chico Fire, the other by county fire through the mutual aid agreement.
