AG Bonta reax to SoCal District Trans Policy Parent Rights

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is responding to a Southern California School District's new policy of notifying parents if their child identifies as transgender. The Chino Valley Unified School District approved the plan last night that gives staffers three days to alert parents. The new rule will also apply when students request a pronoun change, want to use a different gender's bathroom, or want to be called a name different from the one listed on official school records. In a letter to the District, Bonta urges the officials to prioritize student privacy. He said it is the student's right to decide when and with whom they share this information. Bonta added that parental notification could potentially put a student in a harmful situation.
