A man was arrested facing two counts of embezzlement and multiple counts of forgery, police said. In Sept. 2023, the Chico Police Department was contacted by the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion about two separate embezzlement cases. Chico Police Detectives identified the suspect as 59-year-old Michael Zylstra. Records show that the suspect embezzled over 69k from noth organizations. These two groups use their money to help veterans pay medical or utility bills and help them pay their food costs. They also put on educational outreach events.
