9 people dead and numerous injured in a fiery I-5 crash near Orland yesterday evening. CHP officials say the Fed-EX truck was traveling south-bound on I-5, near Orland, and for unknown reasons crossed over the into on coming traffic in the north-bound lane and hit a tour bus head-on after 5:30 pm on Thursday. Witnesses say the vehicles almost immediately burst into flames after the collision and large billows of smoke could be seen for miles. The bus was carrying Los Angeles area students heading to the spring preview preview day at Humboldt State on Saturday. 9 people were killed including the Fed-Ex truck driver and the tour bus driver. 32 people were injured and were transported to various area hospitals including Enloe Medical Center. Both sides of I-5 have been closed. According to the CHP website, the southbound lane is now open.
