Butte County Morning Collisions

An S-U-V goes of the road north of Oroville. The CHP says a Ford Expedition was south bound on Highway 70 near Truex Road when it went off the road and hit a guardrail around 4:30 am this morning. The SUV reportedly went 10 feet on the other side of the guardrail. No one was reported injured in the collision. 
In Chico a single vehicle collision around before 3 am this morning on the north lanes of Highway 99 at the Eaton Road off-ramp. According to the CHP, the vehicle was overturned on the off-ramp and fire crews were called out due to a fuel leak. All occupants of the car were able to get out and no one was reported injured.

A Chico Woman is Arrested for an Alleged Molestation in Red Bluff

A woman is arrested in Chico after a report of a molestation in Red Bluff. The mother of a 14-year-old boy reported to Red Bluff Police that her son had allegedly been molested by 33-year-old Lindsay Lang. She allegedly had several sexual encounters with the boy and at least one with the boy's 13-year-old friend. When Lang was confronted by the boy's mother she agreed to turn herself in, that according to a press release from the Red Bluff Police Department. Authorities learned that Lang was at the Butte County Courthouse in Chico. She was arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail.

Missing Oroville Area Woman Found Safe

A missing Oroville woman is found safe. 51-year-old Tina Marie Searcy who was reported missing Saturday from her residence on Feather Avenue returned home Wednesday afternoon. According to the Butte County Sheriff's Office, Searcy decided to go on a camping trip without telling anyone. Authorities say she returned home safe and uninjured.  

Chico Man Vandalizes Cop Cars and Threatens Officers

A man is arrested after vandalizing police vehicles. Chico police responded to a report of a disturbance on Orange Street after 10 am Wednesday where they found 34-year-old George Lynch and a female companion. Officers learned that the unidentified woman had several outstanding warrants for her arrest. She was taken into custody and Lynch was sent on his way. Lynch who was upset about the woman's arrest allegedly smashed the windshield of a police vehicle with a rock. Officers found Lynch who then reportedly broke the side mirror of a patrol vehicle. He then allegedly swung at an officer, but missed. According to a Chico P.D. press release, he was arrested after he was struck in the leg with a baton. He was charged with vandalism, criminal Threats against an officer, assault on an officer, and obstructing and Delaying officers.

Highway 99 at Cohasset Road Off Ramp Multi Car Accident

The CHP is reporting another collision on Highway 99 this morning with four vehicles involved just before 9 am this morning. The multi car collision happened on the southbound lanes of Highway 99 at the Cohasset Road off-ramp. A Subaru Outback, a Toyota sedan, a Ford sedan, and a Nissan Versa were reportedly involved in the collision. According to the CHP, all the people involved appear to be shook up, but no injuries are being reported.

Highway 99 E 1st Street Off Ramp Accident

The CHP reported a collision on the northbound lane of Highway 99 at East 1st Avenue Off-ramp before 8:30 this morning. A Nissan Cube reportedly collided with a Red Honda sedan. The CHP reports that the airbags were deployed in both vehicles and that no one was hurt in the crash. A third vehicle was seen on the right hand side of the road. As of 9 am there were still vehicles backed up on the highway.     

In-N-Out Assault

A robbery leads to an assault at a Chico restaurant. The incident started at the Walmart parking lot when a 21-year-old man allegedly stole a cell phone and I-D from a 29-year-old woman on Tuesday. She was accompanied by another woman and a 15-year-old male who reportedly went into the Walmart and purchased an aluminum bat. The trio found the suspect at the In-N-Out Burger parking lot. Police say the teen then chased the unidentified suspect and allegedly struck him multiple times with the baseball bat. Officers arrived and arrested the teen. The 21-year-old suspect was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The DA's Office will look into the allegedly robbery.   

Missing Chico Man

Police are searching for a missing Chico man. The family of 33-year-old William Kohnke reported him missing last week.  Kohnke was last seen by a friend at the 11 hundred block of Dayton Road on January 10th. 
Kohnke was last seen wearing brown pants and a dark jacket. His family told police that he has no method of transportation. 
Police do not believe that foul play was involved. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chico Police Department. 

Possible Drug Related Death

Chico Police report a second heroin related death in recent days. Officers and medics came out to an alcove outside the front doorway of the CARD Center on Vallombrosa Avenue before 10:30 Sunday morning after a report of a 20-year-old woman who was found unresponsive. Medics declared her dead at the scene. Heroin and drug related paraphernalia were reportedly located in her possession, however the cause of death will not be established until after an autopsy is performed.
Police say this is the second apparent heroin related death in less than a week.

 

Highway 99 Multiple Vehicle Accident

A multiple vehicle collision in happened in north Chico this morning. The collision involved five vehicles happened before 7:30 am at the East Avenue Off-ramp at the Northbound lane of Highway 99. One person was reported to have a leg injury. No word if there were other injuries. 

Snow and Slushy Rain

A listener has reported slushy rain North of the Cohasset area this morning and snow was reported in upper Paradise near Wagstaff Road before 8 am.

Big Rig Crashes

The CHP reported a big rig traffic collision in Artois north of Willows this morning. The big rig was in the northbound lane of I-5 when it reportedly went off the road and crashed into a tree before 6:30 am. The cab is reportedly destroyed and debris was reported to be scattered across the roadway. There is also word of some kind of spill coming from the semi, the CHP however says that water ways are not being affected by it. No word on the extent of injuries to the driver of the big rig.
 

A big rig has been reported to have spun out on highway 299 at Montgomery Creek. The highway was reportedly closed in both directions while crews worked to clear the scene. 

 

 

Downtown Chico Death Investigation

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a death in downtown Chico. An employee was getting ready to clean the public restrooms on the one hundred block of West 1st Street before 9 pm Tuesday when they reportedly found a man who was unresponsive. Police say the unidentified 29-year-old man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Heroin and drug paraphernalia were reportedly located inside the restroom with the man. Authorities however, are waiting until an autopsy can be performed before they can determine a cause of death.  

Orvoville Shooting

Butte County authorities are investigating a shooting incident in Oroville. Deputies responded to a home on the 23 thousand block of Ithaca Street after reports of a shooting around 6:30 Tuesday morning. Deputies found a man lying on the ground outside of the residence with a single gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. No arrests have been made at this time and detectives are investigating the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Butte County Sheriff's Office. 

Willows Big Rig Ax

The CHP reported a pick up truck verses big rig collision that happened at the I-5 County Road 68 Off-ramp near Willows just before 7 am this morning. Authorities say an F150 pickup is on the center divider off of the roadway with major front end damage and the big rig is on the right hand side of the road. Emergency crews are on scene but no word on the extent of the injuries.

Highway 99 at Durham Dayton Highway Collisions

A multiple vehicle collision happened this morning in Durham. An SUV reportedly rear-ended a Ford pickup truck on Highway 99 at the Durham Dayton Highway just after 6:30 this morning. The SUV then spun out into the center divider. The SUV was then hit by another vehicle. According to the CHP, yet another vehicle hit a guard rail. The car reportedly kept going after hitting the guard rail and was seen driving without headlights. The car eventually stopped and authorities say it had black smoke coming out of it.
No word on the extent of the injuries.

 

Chico Missing Girl Update

Chico Police have just issued a press release stating that they have found a 12-year-old girl reported missing last night. Kimberly Marks was found and returned to her parents safe and sound. Police say no foul play was involved.  

 

 

Missing Chico Girl

Chico Police is asking for help in finding a missing junior high student. At 8 pm Wednesday night Chico Police received a report that 12-year-old Kimberly Marks had not returned home from Marsh Junior High School. According to a press release from the police department, officers searched the campus and the route that Marks normally takes going home from school, but were unable to locate her. 
Marks is described as a white female with curly brown hair. She was last seen wearing a purple or blue jacket with a fur hood, tan jeans, and a camisole top. Marks was also last seen riding a blue cruiser style bike with a basket attached. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chico Police Department.

Butte County Mudslides

CHP reported a mudslide on Oro Bangor Highway at Mission Crest Drive near Oroville after 8 this morning. The CHP says that the slide is small, but it is blocking the road.   
 
And two mudslides close Butte County roads early this morning. One of those slides was blocking Oro Quincy Highway at Berry Creek Road and the other was at Lumpkin Road north of Forbestown Road east of Oroville. The CHP says there were large amounts of mud and rock on both roadways.

CA Storm Round 2

FORESTVILLE, Calif. (AP) — The saga of flooded homes and vineyards in northern California and Nevada may have a second chapter in the form of another big storm expected to arrive today. The area got more than a foot of rain over a 72-hour stretch that ended just yesterday. Yesterday, emergency crews in rescue boats and helicopters took advantage of a one-day respite to rescue stranded people and assess damage.

Butte County Sandbags

Butte County residents seeking sand bags can check numerous locations. The county fire stations at Nord and Palermo will have them. The Town Hall in Paradise and City Hall in Oroville are providing them too. Some 10 locations in Chico will have them, including the Maintenance Yard and Home Depot. 
Plus the public works yard in Biggs and Animal Control in Gridley.

CA Storms

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A winter storm has dumped more than 2 feet of snow around Lake Tahoe. Much of Northern California and the Sierra Nevada are bracing for possible flooding into the weekend. 
And....
HANFORD, Calif. (AP) — The National Weather Service office in Hanford has issued a flash flood warning for north-central Kern County and south-central Tulare County. The warning was issued at 7:10 a.m. Thursday and will be in effect until 1 p.m. The weather service says 5 inches to 9 inches of rain have fallen.

Berry Creek Shooting

A man is arrested after a shooting incident in Berry Creek. Butte County authorities received a report before 8:30 Wednesday night of a shooting victim at Oroville Hospital. Deputies arrived at a residence on the 13 thousand block of Oro Quincy Highway in Berry Creek where they found a second shooting victim. Deputies learned that during an altercation at the residence the suspect, 62-year-old Solomon Awa retrieved a firearm and allegedly shot the victims. One victim suffered minor injuries while the other victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Sacramento.

Jonesville Road Closure

The annual closure of part of Humboldt Road into Jonesville is now in effect through mid March. The road closes each year at this time to restrict vehicular traffic because of snow conditions. The closure begins approximately 100 feet northeast of the entrance to the Jonesville Snowmobile Staging Area to the Butte/Plumas County Line.
