Giants and Vogelsong get ready for Game 3

(AP) - The third game of the World Series will be
played tonight in Detroit and the American League Champion
Tigers need a win, badly. They dropped the first two games to the
Giants in San Francisco, losing 8-3 on Wednesday and 2-0 on
Thursday.
The star in game 2 was starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner who
pitched two-hit ball over seven innings. The bullpen took over and
kept the Tigers in line.
Losing pitcher Doug Fister had a fine outing as well as the game
was scoreless through six and a half innings. The Giants scored
their first run in the home-half of the seventh on a bases loaded
double play. The game's final run came the next inning on a sac
fly.
The game 3 pitching will have midseason acquisition Anibal
Sanchez starting for the Tigers and Ryan Vogelsong for San
Francisco. The temperature in the Motor City is expected to be in
the low-to-mid 40s.
San Francisco is getting tremendous post season pitching as the
starters have allowed two runs in 33 innings over the last five
games, a 0.55 ERA, with 30 strikeouts and six walks.
Of the 52 teams to take a 2-0 lead in the World Series, 41 have
gone on to win the title. That includes 14 of the last 15 teams
with that advantage.
That said, the Giants will be anything but overconfident as in
the National League Divisional playoff they rallied back from an
0-2 deficit to eliminate the Reds in five games with three straight
wins.
