49ers and Raiders Fall; Chico State and Butte with busy weekends


 

 

 

PANTHER DEFENSE SHOVES 49ERS AROUND AS FIVE GAME WINNING STREAK IS SNAPPED

 

(AP) — Drayton Florence's interception in the final minute sealed a 10-9 victory for Carolina on Sunday to snap the San Francisco 49ers' five-game winning streak and give the Panthers their fifth straight win.

Graham Gano kicked a 53-yard field goal with 10:05 remaining that held up as the Panthers (6-3) twice shut down Colin Kaepernick on last-ditch drives with swarming defense.

DeAngelo Williams broke two tackles for a 27-yard touchdown run late in the first half that pulled Carolina within 9-7. Gano missed wide left on a 48-yard field goal in the third period, but came through later.

San Francisco (6-3) got the ball back with 5:25 left at its 1, then again with 1:02 to go.

Phil Dawson kicked a season-best 53-yard field goal among his three for the 49ers, who lost tight end Vernon Davis and rookie safety Eric Reid to concussions.

 

     The Oakland Raiders had their chances but come up short and fall to the New York Giants 24-20. Both the Giants and Raiders are 3-6 on the season.

 

CHICO MEN WRAP UP REGIONAL TITLE WITH A 1-2-3 PERFORMANCE

 

For the 10th time in the last 12 seasons the Chico State men's cross country team is the best in the west. The Wildcats took home the team title in the 2013 West Regionn Championships from Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex in Spokane, Washington. Once again Isaac Chavez displayed his dominance by winning the 10K race by 37 seconds over his teammate Johnny Sanchez. Dayne Gradone finished third, giving Chico State a 1-2-3 finish. Albert Cisneros finished sixth while Phil Graber finished in 22nd place in the 130 runner-field. The Cats now head prepare for the National Championship at the same Plantes Ferry Course on November 23rd.

 

WOMEN GET EDGED OUT BY ALASKA-ANCHORAGE IN CROSS COUNTRY REGIONAL FINALE

 

 

The women's cross country team came within an eye-lash off winning their second straight regional title. Alaska Anchorage edged out the Cats 36-to-39. Ayla Granados finished fifth, while her teammate Sara Mikesell made a late charge finishing seventh. Rebekah Barha finished 11th. All three runners garnered All-West Region honors. The Wildcat women now prepare for the National Championship back in Spokane on November 23rd.

 

CHICO WOMEN FIND THEIR FOOTING IN 28 POINT-WIN IN SEASON OPENER

 

Despite a slow start the Chico State women's basketball team displayed their dominance in an 88-60 win over Dominican University on Saturday in San Rafael. Chico trailed 22-16 nearly 12 minutes into the game before finding their offensive rhythm. A late first half scoring flurry by Analise Riezebos gave Chico a 36-31 lead.

 

 

The Cats would extend that lead in the second half thanks to the hot shooting of Jazmine Miller, who scored 20 points and hit 5-straight three-pointers.

 

 

Hannah Womack scored 18 of her game high 23 in the second half

 

 

Riezebos would score 18 on 9-of-10 shooting. Courtney Hamilton ran the show dishing off 11 assists. The Wildcats will play their home opener on Tuesday at Acker Gym when they take on Fresno Pacific. MEN CLAMPED DOWN ON HOLY NAMES TO WIN SEASON OPENER

 

The Chico State men started their season is style with a 75-43 trouncing of Holy Names on Saturday. Chico darted out of the gate with a stingy defensive effort holding the guests to a 14 point output in the first half.

 

Sean Park scored a game high 19 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Chico also got contributions from their bench and Head Coach Greg Clink looked at several different combinations in the blow-out win. The Cats will open CCAA play this Saturday on the road when they travel to Turlock to take on Cal State Stanislaus. Game time is at 7pm with our pre-game at 6:35pm on Newstalk 1290 KPAY.

 

ALMOST A C-NOTE AS ROADRUNNERS RIP FOOTHILL; STAY PERFECT

 

The Butte College Roadrunner football team is now one step closer to an undefeated regular season after a complete annihilation of Foothill College 84-7. The Roadrunners scored early and often as their defensive unit suffocated Foothill at every turn. The Roadrunners will play the marquee game of their regualar season this Saturday against San Francisco City College. Game time is at 1pm at Cowan Stadium.

 

BUTTE MEN DROP FINAL TWO GAMES AT LOS POSITAS TOURNEY

 

The Butte College men's basketball team went 1-2 in the Los Positas Tournament in Livermore over the weekend. The Roadrunners beat DeAnza 78-74 on Thursday, but fell to Chabot in the winners bracket game on Friday 79-64. Butte then lost on the consolation match-up 82-79 to Siskiyous. The Roadrunners head to the Mendocino College Tourney this coming weekend.
