Wildcats Claim Coyote Classic; High school basketball and soccer playoffs


 

WILDCATS BEAT MONTEREY BAY BY 4 STROKES IN BERNARDINO

 

Sophomore Lee Gearhart carded a final round 68 to lead the Chico State men's golf team a great win at the Coyote Classic in San Bernardino. Gearhart's 68 was good for the tourney indivdual title helping lead the Wildcats to the team title at the Arrowhead Country Club. The win was the second of the season for the Cats and their second win at the Coyote Classic in the last three years.

LEE GEARHART WAS DIALED IN AS HE SHOOTS A 68 LEADING THE WILDCATS TO VICTORY AT COYOTE CLASSIC

 

The Wildcats are ranked 7th in the nation in Division II men's soccer. The Wildcats will tee it up at the Sacramento State Intercollegiate Cup on March 3rd and 4th at the Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove.

 

 

GIRLS SOCCER

 

The Chico High girls soccer team knocked off West Valley in the North Section Division I playoffs. Izi Chinchay, Shelby Hiler, and Sophia Leiker all scored goals. The Panther girls will face Paradise after their 2-0 win over #2 seed Pleasant Valley. That match will be at 12 noon at Chico High on Saturday.

 

In the Division II semis Orland's girls beat Sutter 3-0.

 

BOYS SOCCER

 

The top-seeded Pleasant Valley boys soccer team was a 5-1 winner over #5 Foothill. In Division II Orland knocked off Gridley 3-1 and in Division III Willows was a 7-3 winner over Los Molinos.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL (PLAYOFFS)

 

Division IV

Lassen beats Gridley and will take on top seeded Anderson on Thursday.

#5 West Valley beat Colusa and will take on Wheatland on Thursday.

#11Central Valley upset #6 University Prep and will travel to #3 seed Willows on Thursday.

#7 Winters beat #10 Sutter and will 2-seed Corning, who had a bye.

 

Division V

#1 Durham had a bye, they will play #8 seed Tulelake who beat Los Molinos. Durham and Tulelake play on Thursday night.

#12 Fall River stunned the #5 Biggs girls and will take on #4 seed Hamilton who beat Quincy.

#3 Mt. Shasta beat #14 Williams and will play #11 seed Etna who knocked off #6 Portola.

And, the #10 seed Modoc beat #7 Pierce. Modoc will face #2 seed Weed on Thursday.

#8 Princeton hosts #9 American Christian

#5 Maxwell hosts #12 Chester

#6 Redding Christian hosts #11 Burney

#7 Big Valley hosts #10 Hayfork

GIANTS NAME OPENING DAY STARTER

 

Bruce Bochy has named Madison Bumbarner as the San Francisco Giants opening day start in Arizona on March 31st. In naming MadBum the starter Bochy was choosing the Giants lone starter who finished above .500 last year. Bumgarner was 13-9 with a 2.77 ERA. He was also named to his first All-Star team. The Giants open the regular season in Arizona.
