Initial Water Allocations Look Good For Norcal, Not So Good For The South

Northern Californians were in the right place at the right time when it came to water this year. Federal Officials say location and timing were in the North's favor in light of the winter rainfall. The Bureau of Reclamation announced Friday water contractors north of the Delta will get 100 percent of their water supply this year, but some contractors will only get 5 percent. Shane West is with the Bureau and says allocations were based on where the rain fell.

Those in the San Joaquin area were especially hard hit. West says much of their water needed to be pumped during the fall months, when conditions were dry. These are FEDERAL guidelines for water in Shasta Lake and the Sacramento River. STATE water is stored in places like Lake Oroville.
