Drugged Drivers May Face Tougher Penalties

The growing problem of drivers under the influence of drugs is the focus of a measure by a state lawmaker. State Senator Bob Huff, a Republican from San Dimas, says the number of drivers with the presence of drugs in their system has been dramatically increasing.

Huff says the state has worked to curtail drinking drivers, but drivers using drugs is still a problem. He says his SB 1462 would allow law enforcement to use oral fluid drug screening tests when there's probable cause that a driver is impaired and has failed field sobriety tests.
