Some Chico residents are not happy after a plan was approved by the city council that would make changes to The Esplanade. The council voted 4 to 3 to have two roundabouts placed at Memorial Way and First Avenue intersections. Some residents believe that the roundabouts will destroy the historical nature of the street. A group called 'Save the Esplanade' is collecting voter signatures for a referendum. If there are at least 45 hundred registered voter signatures within 30 days the referendum can be verified and the council can either act to overturn their decision or let citizens vote on the plan.
