The City of Chico Settles Excessive Force Lawsuit

 24-year-old Arash Akbarieh filed the civil rights lawsuit against the city in the U-S District Court for the Eastern District of California in 2013. The lawsuit alleges that Chico police officers forcefully detained Akbarieh without cause while he was outside of a house party. Akbarieh allegedly received a knee injury from the incident. Reportedly the suit also alleges that Akbarieh who is of Iranian descent was racially profiled. Besides the City of Chico, Former Police Chief Kirk Trostle and two police officers were also named as defendants. The amount of the settlement is reportedly $400,000.
