The incident happened north of the Amtrak Depot in Chico around 6 am Wednesday morning. Witnesses told police that they saw a man near the tracks right before the collision. The train blocked crossings between West 9th and West 1st streets for over 3 hours while authorities were investigating the scene. Personnel from the Butte County Coroner's Office removed the unidentified body from the tracks. The incident is still under investigation.
