ONE PILOT KILLED IN SUTTER BUTTES U2 CRASH
Air Force officials have stated that one of two pilots was killed in the crash of a U2B training plane today in the Sutter Buttes. The other pilot is reportedly in critical condition. Federal officials have added a no fly zone on the area around the crash site. Both pilots reportedly ejected from the aircraft. The incident reportedly happened a little after 9 when the U2B trainer---training version of the U2 spy plane--crashed into the southern side of the Buttes. The plane had taken off from Beale Air Force Base. The no fly zone imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration is routine in this case--it extends some 5 nautical miles and up to 3 thousand feet elevation for the next three days. Reports indicate a 20 acre vegetation fire broke out at the crash site, a fire which is being fought by the U.S. Forest Service.
