A former officer of Gridley's American Legion has been sentenced for embezzlement. 45-year-old William White the 3rd was sentenced Thursday to three years formal probation and was ordered to serve 90 days in the Butte County jail for embezzling nearly 20 thousand dollars from the American Legion Post 210 in Gridley. White was one of three officers who had access to the legions' accounts. The funds were embezzled between 2014 and 2016. White admitted to using funds to cover personal expenses and he has already begun to pay back the money owed.
