Accidental Discharge of a Gun Leads Officers to a Hit and Run Suspect

Officers arrived to an apartment complex on West Sacramento Avenue after reports of a physical fight around 4 pm Wednesday. Officers found 19-year-old Tristyn Jones with blood on his face. A gunshot was then heard from the quad area of the apartment complex. 18-year-old Danny Salazar emerged from the area with several wounds. Officers learned that Salazar had an alleged illegal shotgun that accidentally went off. Shotgun pellets reportedly grazed his legs causing minor injuries. No one else was injured in the incident.
Police also learned that Salazar was allegedly the driver of a hit and run collision that happened earlier that day. According to a Chico Police Department press release, Salazar had allegedly been seen on surveillance cameras hitting several parked cars. No one was injured in the collision. He was arrested on a variety of charges.
