Butte County is trying to make it easier--and cheaper--to build their own homes or rebuild after a disaster. County Officials recently signed off on some changes to the county code that allows county residents the chance to build their own homes. County Planner Nancy Springer says one of the key changes is to rebuild after a natural disaster.
She says the changes even allow people to use wood stoves--as long as they are EPA approved. The new regulations were originally tried out in the Concow--Yankee Hill--Big Bend area and are now allowable throughout much of the county, except in large urban areas.
