Shop Lifting Arrests in Chico Monday

A couple is arrested for reportedly shoplifting thousands of dollars worth of items from Chico stores. Chico Police received a call after 2:30 Monday afternoon from CVS Pharmacy on East Avenue that two people had allegedly shoplifted a significant amount of items from the store. Officers later found the vehicle that the suspects reportedly fled in at Bed, Bath and Beyond. They contacted a 17-year-old female in the car from Oakland. Officers went inside and found 21-year-old Jihad Muhammad. During the investigation officers learned that a total of 7,500 dollars worth of items were allegedly stolen from several stores in Chico. Officers also learned that Muhammad had a restraining order preventing him from having contact with the female. Both were arrested for the thefts. Muhammad was also charged with the violation of a restraining order. According to police, child with the couple was turned over to Butte County Child Protective Services.

Meanwhile, another alleged shoplifting took place Monday at Chico Power Equipment on the Esplanade and East Lassen Avenue around 5 pm. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Daniel Shamblin reportedly entered the store and retrieved a saw blade. He then allegedly ran out to a vehicle waiting for him. Employees of the store and customers reportedly caught Shamblin. A female was seen fleeing the area in the alleged getaway car. Officers reviewed security video and learned that Shamblin's actions were an alleged diversion while two other people reportedly grabbed tools and took off in the opposite direction. According to a Chico Police Department press release, those suspects dropped the tools in order to get away. Those tools were said to be worth over 3 thousand dollars. Shamblin was arrested.
