Young Man Sentenced For Fatal Crash in Oroville

A teen is sentenced in for a collision in Oroville that took the life of his girlfriend. 19-year-old Pao Lor was sentenced Tuesday to three years of formal probation with fines and fees and one day in Butte County Jail for the vehicular death of his passenger, Samantha Vang.

According to a Butte County District Attorney's Office press release, Superior Court Judge Jesus Rodriguez made a note of the emotional toll the incident had taken on Lor and his genuine remorse as well as the nature of his relationship with Vang. Family members of Vang also asked the judge to show mercy on Lor. Those factors lead to the sentence that was given.

The incident happened last year when Lor was driving home from the grocery store with Vang in his Subaru on Lincoln Boulevard. Authorities say Lor was traveling between 55 and 70 miles an hour in construction zone with a 25 mile per hour speed limit. Authorities say due to the high speeds Lor was unable to negotiate a turn and overcorrectred - colliding with a utility pole.
