The Check Before You Light season starts today. That's according to a press release from the Butte County Air Quality Management District. Officials say now that we're heading into the colder months certain weather patterns can lead to strong inversions and stagnant air. On those days the District will issue a Check Before You Light advisories where residents will be asked to voluntarily refrain from using wood-burning devices if possible because they say it could be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
To find out if an advisory is being issued - you can call the Air Quality Management District hotline at 332-9409 or visit their twitter feed @bcaqmd.
