Deputy John Thomas arrived to the bridge on Cherokee Road where he found a man reportedly leaning over the bridge making suicidal statements around 8:45 Tuesday morning. Deputy Thomas was able to safely remove the man from the bridge. Authorities say Deputy Thomas then talked with the man, de-escalating the situation. The man then agreed to go with the deputy to the hospital where a clinician with the Butte County Behavioral Health met with the man for a mental health evaluation.
