A Patrol Sergeant conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on East Avenue at Maripose Avenue around 1:15 Saturday. During the stop it was discovered that one of the occupants, 31-year-old Paul Linarez was on Parole with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The Street Crimes Unit arrived and conducted a parole search of the vehicle and Linarez's residence. According to a Chico Police press release, during the search officers reportedly discovered a loaded handgun in the vehicle. Linarez was taken into custody for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.

That was one of 13 arrests that were made last week by the The Chico Police Department's Street Crimes Unit. During it's seventh week in operation seized more than an ounce and a half of Methamphetamine.

According to Chico Police, there have been 114 arrests total since the unit has been active.
