Chico Shoplifting Confrontation and Arrest

A man entered Anthony's Liquor on the Esplanade and a customer reportedly spotted the man attempting to conceal a bottle of alcohol. When the clerk and the customer confronted the man, identified as 57-year-old Francisco Franco who allegedly started swinging the bottle of alcohol. Police say the bottle broke and Franco reportedly cut a customer several times. The clerk and other customers reportedly tackled Franco to the ground and held him there until officers arrived. According to the Chico Police Department, Franco was treated for a cut to his eye before being booked into the Butte County Jail for robbery, criminal threats, and assault with a deadly weapon. Police believe Franco was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
