Republican lawmakers say AB 5 that went into effect this month forces independent contractors, in the state, to be put into an employee category.

According to a press release from California Senate Republicans, SB 875 co-authored by several Republicans in both the State Senate and Assembly including North State Senator Jim Nielsen and Assemblyman James Gallagher would allow freelance translators and interpreters to remain as independent contractors in order to continue to serve members of the deaf and hard of hearing community.
