Butte County Theft Sentence

A woman falsely claimed to be a Camp Fire victim in an attempt to avoid a criminal sentence. 45-year-old Traci Wright was in court Thursday for her sentencing for grand theft charges. Those charges stemmed from the theft of clothing, jewelry, checkbooks, prescription medicine, and other items from a former roommate's residence in December 2017.

According to the Butte County District Attorney's Office, during her sentencing Wright claimed the reason for turning to theft was because she lost her home during the Camp Fire. However, the prosecutor pointed out that the theft happened a year before the fire and that Wright had been residing in Chico at the time. That prompted the Judge to give the maximum upper term of 3 years in county jail.
