A Chico teacher charged with sexually abusing a student is headed for trial. Butte County Superior Court Judge Michael Deems ruled Thursday that there is enough evidence for the case involving Jennifer Lynn Smith to proceed. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Smith was a Spanish Teacher at Bidwell Junior High School. She was arrested in August when a former student claimed she was a victim of ongoing sexual abuse while at school. Smith is charged with eight felonies, and will return to court in November.
