Butte Co Sups New Fire Prevention Guidelines
OROVILLE — The Butte County Board of Supervisors voted during Tuesday's meeting to repeal and replace a portion of the county code titled "Fire Protection and Prevention" with new guidelines that property owners will be required to comply with, as well as outlining how the county will enforce the guidelines.
The new amendments include requiring true defensible space of 100 feet from a structure, regardless of property lines, as well as a five-foot ember resistant zone. Additionally, property owners are required to clear vegetation from the edge of their road or driveways by 10 feet horizontally and 14 feet vertically. For evacuation routes officially designated in community evacuation plans, those requirements increase to 20 feet horizontally and 14 feet vertically from the edge of the roadway.
