Butte County sees Covid Spike
291 new cases of the Coronavirus were reported on Friday.
The surge has not stopped and it has resulted in 91 local
hospitalizations and more than 17-hundred people isolated
and quarantined.
Health officials say even though the Omicron variant
is less severe than Delta, the immunocompromised and those
with underlying conditions are still at risk.
Butte County's skepticism when it comes to the
vaccine continues to show in their infection rate
and increasing hospitalizations. Only 53 percent
of county residents are vaccinated with more than
5 percent receiving at least one shot. 41 percent
of residents are not vaccinated.
23 percent of county residents have been vaccinated
and boosted.
Lisa Almaguer with Butte County Public Health
told the ChicoER that the county's 25 percent positivity
rate is very high.
She says Butte County usually trails the trends seen
around the state and those trends are showing Omicron
slowing down.....although in many of those locations
people are getting vaccinated and boosted at a much
higher rate than here locally
