Early Saturday at around 2am ., the Chico Police Department responded a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at W. 8th Street at Main Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a pedestrian in the roadway with severe, life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Vitaly Smith, a 30-year-old male from Chico, cooperated with authorities and remained at the scene. Following a field sobriety test, Smith was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
