PG&E received around 43,000 reports from customers who were targeted by scammers impersonating company employees and customers lost approximately $875,000 in fraudulent payments. Officials say they have had customers reporting scammers for years, but the numbers keep rising. Last Dec., they had 21 reported scams in Chico, 13 in Oroville and six in Redding. PGE Spokesman Paul Moreno says that PGE will send a letter to inform a customer if they fall behind on payments and to report any calls they may receive they believe be a scam call.
