State Groundwater breaks records
Thanks to a wet 2023, California's groundwater supplies are at historic levels. Stephen Springhorn is an engineering geologist with the California Department of Water Resources, and he puts the amount of water collected into perspective saying the levels now equal the amount of water in Shasta Lake . Springhorn says we need a few more years of heavy rain to recover from decades of drought. He adds that the state, counties, and cities are getting much better at collecting and storing water, and ongoing projects are underway to improve that efficiency going forward.
