Grand Jury Report Chico Homeless Crisis
The city of Chico is preparing its response to the Butte County grand jury report that recommends changes in how the city handles the homeless crisis. In its report, the grand jury said the city of Chico precipitated the Warren lawsuit when the unhoused were relocated without adequate shelter, but the city says it disagrees with that finding because the basis for the Warren lawsuit was resoundingly rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The grand jury says the city of Chico is responsible for allowing the appalling conditions at the alternative site due to neglect.
The Report made several recommendations, including developing an internal committee to interface with the unhoused population.
This will be discussed at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
