State Insurance Updates on Policies
The California Department of Insurance recently announced a one year moratorium on insurers cancelling or not renewing policies. The estimated insurance cost of the wildfires is at 30 billion dollars and counting, which puts insurance companies in a difficult position and homeowners will foot the bill. Attorney and business expert Parag Amin [[ Per-og Ah-meen ]] says homeowners will start paying for it relatively soon. He believes a ten percent increase at a minimum, but also believes it could be 20, 30 or even 40 percent depending on the size of insurance company and the number of policy holders effected by the wildfires. He adds that if the premium hikes don't offset the cost for insurers, they could once again start leaving the state.
