OROVILLE MAN FACES PRISON ARSON CHARGES
An Oroville man known for his past arson conviction faced new charges in Butte County Superior Court on Tuesday.
Alfonso Pasillas of Oroville was arraigned on a new arson charge after allegedly starting a fire with a flare gun.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said that on August 2, Pasillas caused a grass fire by firing flares from a flare gun. One of these flares landed in dry grass on La Mirada Avenue in rural east Oroville, igniting a blaze. The Butte County District Attorney's Office says that Pasillas was previously convicted of attempted arson in early 2024. Pasillas is scheduled to return to court on August 7, 2025, for a plea entry and preliminary hearing setting. If convicted, Pasillas could face up to 12 years in state prison.
